The completion of Rhythm Within realizes a dream that I've had for several years -- to create my own book of heartfelt poetry to share with whomever might choose to partake of it. It reflects my current personal reflections, as well as the most important relationship, that of me to myself. I owe a debt of gratitude to Lucia Capacchione, Ph.D. whose book The Power of Your Other Hand inspired me to write the original draft of virtually every poem with my non-dominant (left) hand. Starting this project felt like going out on a limb, and making the decision to create with my non-dominant hand helped give me the courage to bring out my spontaneous truth. I am completely grateful to Lloyd, my partner, whose patience and support were so appreciated through the many trials and trails, which have led to the completion of this book. My gratitude also extends to the USM staff -- Ron, Mary, and especially David who so patiently and supportively pored through my project reports, month after month. My dear friend Little Crow is also to be thanked. My participation in the all-inclusive oral tradition of the American Indian Church for the past five years has provided inspiration, reflecting my own purely personal interpretation of the instruction that he has so trustingly and generously imparted. Then there's my wonderful project team, the Rainbow Riders -- Randy, Michelle, Pamela and Liz, each of whom has surpassed the black-belt level in the art of prizing. I don't know what I would've done without their support, love and encouragement. Lastly, I'd like to thank my ever-vigilant inner-critic for so lovingly allowing me to reframe her as my friendly editor. Creating this book has truly been an adventure of faith. |
